Granada - the other side of the river

Hola family and friends

Another gorgeous day in Granada, spending the morning exploring the caves of Sacramonte, a hillside area still home to a thriving Roma community. This side of the river - dry and sparse with more of a Mexican feel - is quite a contrast to the lushness of the Alhambra. Yet, from our apartment, it was just a half hour stroll, albeit uphill, in the opposite direction. Well worth the climb. And beyond the caves, the Abbey of Sacramento. It was a delightful way to spend our last morning in Granada.

After a yummy lunch of calamares frites, salad and vino blanco - the afternoon was spent taking care of few errands including requesting our pilgrims credenciale from the cathedral, getting packs ready, last minute laundry etc.

The past three weeks have been fabulous - and indulgent! We have enjoyed every minute But now we are ready for the challenge of a more Spartan existence and some long days hiking. We might think better of that in a day or two - but for now we are excited to begin another camino.

Many of you have followed one or more of my earlier Caminos  and, in some cases, we have walked together. So you know The Way is always full of surprises. We don't really have much of an idea of what's in store for Camino Mozarabe. We'll soon find out!

Before I sign off, thank you for your emails, news and good wishes - Helen (Mum), Cathy, Pam. Julie, Jacque, Helen C, Audrey, Rosanne, Jill, Ange, Mandi, Marian, Nick and Maurice. Lovely to hear from you.

Time for bed. The last few nights we've been dining Spanish style - quite late. Not tonight. We have a long walk ahead of us tomorrow, if all goes well. And the daytime temperatures are climbing to the high 20s. So an early start for us.

Hasta luego

And one last photo from the Alhambra - it really is the jewel!

Alhambra, Granada

What a fabulous day!

And not just because our packs arrived just before noon - though we were extremely relieved about that. Everything was there - including our Alhambra booking confirmation without which today would have turned out very differently. Everything - except a set of hiking poles. They'd had been tightly secured to our packs. Mine arrived, Domi's didn't.

Thankfully tonight we found a store not far away and he was able to replace them. We start the Camino Mozarabe the day after tomorrow, on 1 May. And from what we've read about the first week's ascents and descents, those poles will come in handy.

Back to today. With blue skies, and sun shining bright, we spent the whole afternoon and into early evening at the Alhambra. It was magical. If you've been there, well you don't need me to tell you what a special place it is. If you haven't - but have the opportunity to visit one day ...

So just posting photos tonight - lots and lots of photos. Nothing more to add.
